Five people have been arrested in the central region for attacking members of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

The arrests come after DPP sounded an alarm on Saturday that some members of the opposition Malawi Congress Party are attacking DPP members especially in the central region.

Police confirmed the arrests and said more are yet to be made.

DPP through its Secretary General Grezelder Jeffrey issued a statement indicating that MCP has been attacking DPP members.

“The Democratic Progressive Party is deeply concerned with a recent spare and increase in the violence and terror perpetrated by the Malawi Congress Party and its agents.

“The new wave of terror has gripped the Central Region where people in the districts of Lilongwe and Dedza are experiencing untold suffering and macabre attacks,” reads the statement dated March 29, 2020 and signed by Jeffrey.
