A sombre mood has engulfed Nehiya family in Ndirande Township in Blantyre city following the untimely death of a 36 year old woman after she was accidentally run-over by a family car.
Police say, she wanted to rescue her child who was behind the reversing vehicle.
The deceased, Chrissy Nehiya who hailed from Kapichi village T/A Kapichi in Thyolo district was hitand killed by the car when the husband was reversing it, disclosed Inspector Edna Mzingwitsa, Public Relations Officer for Ndirande Police Station.
“The incident occurred on 4th April 2020 at Ndirande Newlines at about 20:30 hours.
A 36 year old Prescott Nehiya was as usual in his compound parking in reverse a Toyota Hilux pick up CP 6728.
While reversing he lost control of the vehicle and ended up hitting his wife who on that time rushed torescue their son who was behind the motor vehicle, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at Ndirande health centre.” Confirmed Mzingwitsa
“Meanwhile, police is advising all drivers to be cautious and very observant when reversing, parking and entering into premises to avoid such incidents.” Cautioned Mzingwitsa
Prescott Nehiya comes from Khoviwa village T/A Chikumbu in Mulanje district.
