State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also President of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) has committed his entire salary to the fight against Coronavirus.
The development comes barely hours after President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika announced a 10 percent cut of his salary and that of Cabinet Ministers to combat the pandemic.
Spokesperson in the Office of the Vice President Pilirani Phiri confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
“I can confirmed that Chilima is giving up three months salary to contribute to state of public health emergency to help in an efforts to halt the spread of the coronavirus,” said Phiri.
According to Phiri, the office of the Vice President will soon communicate to the Chief Secretary on the matter.
Chilima earns MK1.7 million per month.
