Government insist the economic situation now is not as allowing enough to repatriate Malawians stranded with lockdowns in other nations including South Africa.
This comes after some Malawians in South Africa have requested government to rescue them as the country recently extended its lockdown.
Malawi has also now announced a 21 day lockdown.
But government says with current economic constraints, it is still considering their requests for repatriation.
In an interview, one of the members of the special cabinet committee on Coronavirus, Dr. William Susuwele Banda said government is weighing the costs.
“We are looking at the request because we are challenged capacity wise to bring people in most of these neighboring countries. We are exploring whether the capacity for transport can allow us to do that, said Banda.
