A Zimbabwean man has died after being beaten by a brother and  husband of a woman he was having an affair with.

The two brothers-in-law teamed up to lure the cheating man into an elaborately planned ambush before thoroughly beating him up using an assortment of weapons.

iHarare reports that Brandy Sifanjani from Gweru suspected that his wife Nyaradzo Chigagaure was having an adulterous affair with Walter Mutombwera (36). Nyaradzo is currently in South Africa.

Sifanjani then plotted with his wife’s brother  Darlington Chigagure and their friend Precious Moyo to lure Mutombwera into an ambush.  Precious Moyo is said to have impersonated Nyaradzo and called Mutombwera saying that she was back from South Africa and wanted to spend some quality time with him.

An unsuspecting Mutombwera is reported to have shown up at Nyaradzo’s home on March 11, 2020, at around 11 pm for the illicit rendezvous where Sifanjani was lying in wait.

When Mutombwera entered the house, Sifanjani attacked him with a hoe handle. But, Mutombwera managed to fight back and overpower Sifanjani. When he tried to flee, however, Chigagure came to his brother-in-law’s rescue and stepped in to assault his sister’s lover.

The two brothers-in-law managed to tie up Mutombwera and took turns assaulting him using the hoe handle and a knife. During the assault which lasted more than 5 hours, the two broke both of Mutombwera’s legs.

Mutombwera is reported to have cried out for help but no one came to his rescue, although the state has so far located 12 witnesses who will testify in court.

When the two brothers-in-law realised that they had seriously injured Mutombwera they bundled him into a car and dumped him about 500m from their home. Mutombwera was rescued by a taxi driver but died while he was being transported to the hospital.

Chigagaure has since been arrested for murdering his sister’s lover. However, the police are yet to locate and arrest Sifanjani and Precious Moyo. Chigagure was denied bail and remanded to the 28th of May, 2020.

Mutombwera is survived by a wife and two children.
