Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has asked Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to arrest two Cabinet Ministers involved in the plunder of public funds meant for coronavirus pandemic.
The call follows a leaked video clip showing Minister of Health and Population Jappie Mhango and Minister of Information Mark Botomani discussing allowance issue while on the podium.
The two were unaware that the microphone was on when they discussed how to lie on the hefty allowances they receive on daily basis.
In a statement released on Thursday, CDEDI Acting Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa asked for swift action by the ant-grafting busting body.
“CDEDI is appealing to the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director Rayneck Matemba to move in swiftly by prosecuting the two ministers who, according to the conversation, are caught in the act, on the other hand, the members of the whole committee should be investigated,” reads part of the statement made available to Faceofmalawi.
Meanwhile CDEDI has commended President Peter Mutharika for dissolving the special cabinet committee on coronavirus.
