State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima has said torchbearer for the grand alliance of the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and United Transformation Movement (UTM) will be known on Wednesday.

Chilima said this during media briefing in the capital Lilongwe on Monday where he highlighted a number of issues affecting the country.

“We will have one leader…It’s either me or Dr Chakwera. There is no third person. The alliance is designed to promote unity among Malawians,” said Chilima.

He then urged Malawians to think beyond the leadership issue.

“There is only one leader so we have to accept, the alliance to work with the people of Malawi.

“You should believe that what we are doing is for the good of the entire nation. Let us continue to pray, those of you who having doubts should just wait; whether it is me or Chakwera, the most important thing is to vote, so that those people should leave,” Chilima said.

MCP-UTM alliance will present nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) on Wednesday ahead of the fresh Presidential polls on July 2, 2020.
