President for the grand alliance of the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and United Transformation Movement (UTM) Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has described the current Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) as unworthy to preside over fresh Presidential polls.

Chakwera said this when he was presenting his nomination papers to MEC at Mount Soche ahead of fresh Presidential polls scheduled for July 2, 2020.

In his speech, Chakwera said MCP-UTM alliance is the destiny that Malawians have been denied for the past 26 years.

“Our destiny is Malawi Watsopano Okomela TONSE. That is what you deserve.

“It is a destiny that has survived six years of broken promises from a president who has failed to govern. It is a destiny that has survived the acrimony of the 2019 campaign and the robbery of the 2019 elections,” said Chakwera.

He added: “It is a destiny that has survived the lawlessness of this Malawi Electoral Commission.”

Meanwhile Chakwera has hailed his runningmate Dr. Saulos Chilima for not giving up despite being harassed as Vice President of the country.
