The state vice President Saulos Chilima has alleged that some cabinet ministers conspired to kill him, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera and three other people before July 2 fresh presidential elections take place.

Chilima who is also Chakwera’s running-mate made the allegations today in Lilongwe during the funeral ceremony of two family members who died due to act of arson.

Chilima said the planned assassination was conspired at a meeting organized by Cabinet Ministers held on Thursday last week.

According to Chilima, the cabinet meeting also agreed to assassinate MCP’s IT expert Daudi Suleiman, human rights activist turned politician Timothy Mtambo and HRDC Chairperson Gift Trapence.

He claimed the assassinations were planned in order for the fresh poll not to take place.

Chilima has since challenged cabinet to prove him wrong. His allegation comes amid a political campaign as the country heads for a fresh election.
