Completion of the construction of the area 18 clover interchange, initially planned for July maybe pushed to August, 2020 due to the current coronavirus pandemic which has affected the works on the site, the Roads Authority(RA) has disclosed.

MRA spokesperson, Portia Kajanga said works on the project has been affected by the fact that the contractor (Motor Engil) was adhering to COVID-19 preventative measures, affecting progress.

Kajanga said though the project has a Medical Officer, an Environmental Health and Safety Officer and that RA officers frequently visit the site to ensure that all the government recommendations are being followed, the pandemic has affected the progress in a number of way.

Kajanga added that the ongoing lockdown in South Africa made it impossible to import Bitumen products, street lights and other structural elements of the bridge which also affected the progress.

She added that with the South African government relaxing some of the lockdown measures, such material will now be brought into the country.
