Attorney General Kalekeni Kaphale has asked the Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament to come up with genuine elections date.

Kaphale said this after he appeared before the Committee together with Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah.

However Kaphale was quick to state that such mandate should only be exercised on a genuine election that meets International obligations.

Kaphale remarks came at a time where there have been debates regarding the selection of the polls date.

Recently, there has been debate following sentiments by MEC chairperson Jane Ansah that her Commission has no mandate of setting an elections date arguing such mandate lies with parliament.

However, Ansah refused to speak to the media.
