The Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has called off the planned national wide protests scheduled for May 28, 2020.
The decision follows the resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah.
HRDC Chairperson Gift Trapence disclosed this during a media briefing held in the capital Lilongwe on Tuesday.
According to Trapence, the move is aimed at giving President Peter Mutharika time to appoint new commissioners by 5 June this year.
HRDC has since warned that it will mobilise three million people for State House demonstrations if new Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) commissioners are not appointed by June 5.
