A CNN reporter was arrested while broadcasting live from the scene of protests over the death of George Floyd – a handcuffed black man who pleaded for air as a white police officer kneeled on his neck.

CNN viewers saw Minnesota State Patrol officers place the film crew, which included correspondent Omar Jimenez, in handcuffs early on Friday morning.

Footage of the incident shows Jimenez repeatedly telling the officers, who are all in full riot gear, that “we can move back to where you’d like”.

“Put us back where you want us, we are getting out of your way,” he tells them.

“Just let us know. Wherever you want us, we will go. We were just getting out of your way while you were advancing through the intersection.

He then continued his live report to camera, but within seconds one of the officers began to place him in handcuffs, telling Jimenez: “You’re under arrest now.”
