Two people have spent a night in police cell for allegedly being behind the fracas that erupted at Rumphi boma during a whistle stop tour by the DPP/UDF alliance runningmate Atupele Muluzi on Monday.
United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele is in the north campaigning for President Peter Mutharika ahead of the fresh Presidential polls and on Monday held a number of whistle stop in Rumphi district.
While at Rumphi Boma, some unknown people started throwing stones to disrupt Atupele’s stop over to campaign for DPP-UDF alliance.
DPP Regional Governor for the North Reverend Christopher Mzomera Ngwira confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
According to Ngwira, the assailants were paid to cause mayhem.
Ngwira said political violence will not be tolerated and that their alliance doesn’t condone it.
Meanwhile the law enforcers are investigating the matter.
