Malawians have taken to social media to call for former Minister Finance and Economic Development Goodall Edward Gondwe who is also Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the North to retire from frontline politics.
This follows a picture which has gone viral on social media showing Gondwe failing to stand up during whistle stop tours conducted by President Peter Mutharika’s runningmate, Atupele Muluzi in Karonga on Tuesday.
In the picture, Gondwe is seen alone holding a seat while the rest of the guests at the venue are seen standing as Atupele is addressing the crowd.
Writing on his official Facebook page, one of the social commentators Onjezani Kenani has urged Gondwe to retire from frontline politics.
“If God blesses me to reach the age of Goodall, I would love to spend my time reading poetry,” wrote Kenani.
Concurring with Kenani’s remarks Chimwemwe Bandawe wrote: “ I would never let my father do this, he should be home enjoying his retirement.”
