Two people have sustained serious injuries in a road accident which happened on Wednesday evening in Dowa district.

Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) said the victims have been identified as Fanuel Robert, 24, from Mphezi Village, Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa and Austin Kalonje, 44, a Congolese national from Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

He said the accident happened at Mchikho Village along Dowa-Chezi road involving a motor vehicle registration number DA 8319 Nissan Saloon, driven by Martin Chagwira, 36, of Chabvu Village, Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa and unregistered motorcycle, ridden by Fanuel Robert.

“Traffic Police report indicate that the motor vehicle was coming from Dowa Boma going towards Chezi Trading Centre. Upon reaching at Mchikho Village, while overtaking another motor vehicle which was going towards the same direction, it collided head-on with an oncoming motorcycle which was coming from the opposite direction.”

“Due to the impact, the rider of the motorcycle Fanuel Robert sustained a fractured right leg and deep cuts on right hand while a pillion passenger Austin Kalonje sustained fractures on the thigh and lower part of the right leg.” Explained M’bumpha

Dowa PRO has indicated that both victims are being treated at Dowa District Hospital where they have been admitted while the driver of the motor vehicle escaped unhurt.

“The motor vehicle had its front part extensively damaged while the motorcycle had its front wheel and handles extensively damaged.” Added M’bumpha
