A nurse has revealed that she once worked for a married couple who didn’t realise they needed to have sex in order to have a baby.
Rachel Hearson, who has been an NHS nurse, midwife, and health visitor for more than 40 years, has made the shocking revelation in her memoir ‘Handle With Care: Confessions of an NHS Health Visitor’. In the book, she shared her bizarre and hilarious tales in her long career as a health worker.
In an interview with The Mirror, she opened up about a bizarre experience she had in the pre-internet days. Hearson said she came across a couple who were married for years but didn’t have any children.
She was informed by a general practitioner that a couple didn’t know how to make babies, which made way for a candid discussion on sex.
Believe it or not, the couple genuinely believed babies arrived as a result of getting married and didn’t require a male and a female to have sexual intercourse.
“They had been married for some years but children ‘hadn’t come along’. The GP deduced they didn’t know how to make babies, and it was my job to ensure they did!” said Hearson
“They genuinely thought babies arrived as a result of simply ‘being married’ and had no clue. Teaching someone about sex is quite a responsibility. But within a couple of visits, the pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other,” she added.
Hearson added that she has faced many absurd and bizarre scenarios in her career.
