At least 54 new cases of the novel coronavirus have been recorded in the country for last 24 hours with no new deaths and recoveries, health officials confirmed.

According to the statement released by the Covid-19 presidential task force signed by its Co-Chairperson Dr. John Phuka, out of the new cases, 35 are health workers, 24 from Lilongwe and 11 from Mzuzu.

The statement added that the remaining 19 were identified through the routine screening exercise conducted at Mwanza boarder.

Cumulatively, Malawi has recorded 803 cases including 11 deaths.

Of these cases, 258 of the total cases have now recovered bringing the total number of active cases to 534.

The average age of the cases is 32 years, the youngest case is aged 1 year, the oldest is 78 years and 70% are male.

The country has so far conducted 11,074 COVID-19 tests in 34 COVID-19 testing sites.
