Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has commended government for suspending awarding of contracts which is aiming at paving way for a quick audit to determine a number of issues.

This morning, Chief Secretary to the Government Zangazanga Chikhosi issued a press statement on the matter saying it is with immediate effect.

In an interview with HRDC, chairperson Gift Trapence, said the awarding of contracts is one fertile ground for corruption.

Trapence said while suspending the award of contracts is a welcome move, it is important for government to penalize wrongdoers to show that the new administration is willing to stamp out corruption which has, for long time, stifled public service delivery.

The new administration, in what appears to be a cleanup campaign, has also dissolved boards of 60 parastatals.
