Kameza Quarantine Centre has been closed indefinitely following a strike by health workers over failure by government to settle their risk allowances.
Last week the health workers stormed Blantyre District Council (BCC) demanding their allowances amounting to MK50 million after it was revealed that government released the money to the council.
Director of Health and Social Services of Blantyre District Health Office Dr. Zaziwe Fatsani Gundah confirmed of the development in a statement made available to faceofmalawi.
“Please not that with immediate effect, admission of COVID-19 cases has been suspended. Facilities are encouraged to create wards for COVID cases and ensure that there is enough appropriate PPEs for the workers caring for the cases.
“We will resume normal services upon cessation of the current situation by Junior Health care workers,” reads in part the statement.
Malawi has so far recorded over 1,800 cases of COVID-19 with 19 deaths.
