Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has asked President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera not to proceed swearing in siblings, spouses and relations as cabinet ministers and deputies.

The call follows report that Chakwera is today expected preside over swearing in ceremony of newly appointed Minister at his home in the capital Lilongwe.

In a statement signed by CDEDI Acting Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa, the grouping asked Chakwera not to divert from Tonse philosophy.

“Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) is reliably informed that President Lazarus Chakwera is this afternoon at presiding over the swearing in of his newly appointed cabinet.

“We would like to urge Tonse Alliance to stick to its promise of ending family politics and nepotism,” said Namiwa.

He added: “CDEDI believe the servant leadership Chakwera pledge will not allow him to swear in siblings, spouses and relations as cabinet ministers and deputies!”

Meanwhile Chakwera has backed his newly appointed Cabinet.
