A miner has died in Zambia after the earth collapsed and buried him alive.

Central province police commissioner Chola Katanga confirmed the accident.

Mr. Katanga said the incident occurred on Friday between 16:00 and 17:00 hours whilst the victim was working.

Mr. Katanga identified the victim as Enock Mupeta 22, of an unknown address in Itala compound.

Mr. Katanga further said after police in conjunction with the fire brigade rushed to the scene where the body was retrieved and pronounced dead upon reaching Mkushi district hospital.

The victim was working for Sacko Mine Limited, formerly owned by Sacko Bassi who has been deported to his native land Mali after allegedly abrogating Zambian laws.
