Social and good governance commentator Makhumbo Munthali has commended vice president Saulos Chilima for engaging cabinet ministers on proposed reforms in their ministries.
For the past two days Chilima has been engaging cabinet ministers in the capital Lilongwe and briefed them on proposed reformed the administration of Tonse Alliance under president Lazarus Chakwera is intending to foresee.
In his remarks, Munthali described the development as a good move.
“It is a good move by vice president Saulos Chilima to keep on engaging all cabinet ministers (and their respective teams) on proposed reforms in their ministries,” said Munthali.
He further expressed satisfactory with the daily updates by the deputy vice president on his Facebook page.
According to Munthali, the updates the veep is sharing on his page provide an opportunity for the citizenry not only to know some key proposed reforms in particular ministry but also to give their feedback on the same.
“Already loving the Facebook updates by the Veep sharing a summary of the discussions as well as his personal reflections on the same. Such updates provide an opportunity for the citizens not only to know some key proposed reforms in a particular Ministry but also to give their feedback on the same,” he added.
He also noted that such meetings will benefit the cabinet ministers to understand that they are not only accountable to the president only but also to the vice president.
“Equally important to Cabinet Ministers is the message being driven home that they are not only accountable to the President but also to the Vice President (besides the citizens) including on reforms related business in their respective Ministries,” he said.
Munthali added; “To this end, the Veep becomes a reliable partner in the Presidency in order to deliver reforms in their respective Ministries.”
According to Munthali, perhaps this is why President Chakwera recently “appealed to all and sundry to support the Vice President in the public sector reforms path”
