Luchenza police in Thyolo district have arrested 14 members of the Super 16, a DPP security team for the southern region for allegedly committing various offenses.

Sources said the gang assaulted MCP and UTM supporters during the 2019 tripartite elections and 2020 Fresh Presidential Elections.

Southern Region Police Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent Ramsy Mushani has confirmed to us about the arrests.

“Yes I can confirm that we have arrested the 14 and have been charged with assault, theft and malicious damage offenses and we suspect that they committed these offenses some months ago,” said Mushani.

The arrest of the 14 comes barely two days after police in Mulanje arrested two DPP supporters on allegations that they assaulted MCP and UTM monitors during registration of voters for the Fresh Presidential Elections in Mulanje.

The two McDonald Namowa and Hazwel Mpando were released on bail Tuesday afternoon by the Magistrate’s court in the district.
