Kanyama Chiume’s wife Edas Ngoza Simbeye passed away Friday, 7th August, 2020 in the United States.

She has died at the age of 85 after a long illness.

Edas Simbeye was born in Tabora District, Tanganyika, now Tanzania.

She married Kanyama Chiume in the mid 1950s in Tanganyika but later relocated to Nyasaland, now Malawi together until the cabinet Crisis of 1964.

She fled with her two kids Kwacha and Jessie to Tanzania through Chitipa.

Kanyama Chiume was a Malawian early politician who worked with the first president Dr Kamuzu Banda.

After the cabinet crisis, he was labelled as Kamuzu’s enemy.

He had been speaking against Kamuzu in exile(Zambia and Tanzania) until the dawn of democracy in 1994 when he returned home.

He died in 2007 and was laid to rest in Lilongwe.
