Information reaching this publication indicates that Stan Ishmael Chioko has been appointed as Acting Chief Executive Officer for Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) replacing Collins Magalasi who is on leave.

This has been confirmed in a MEMO signed by Human Resources and Administration Manager Troy Mtenje addressed to members of staff dated August 12, 2020.

According to the MEMO, the appointment of Chioko is with effect from August 12, 2020.

“Be further informed that current Chief Executive Officer Dr. Collins Magalasi has proceeded on leave,” reads in part the MEMO.

The law enforcers arrested Magalisi and his business partner Dorothy Shonga, populary known as Cash Madam over dubiously procurement deals at MERA.

Magalasi and Shonga together with two other suspects were released on bail last week.
