Flames coach Kinnah Phiri is expected to undergo a refresher course in Germany as one way of improving his performance.
The upshot comes after Football Association of Malawi (Fam) noted that one of the reasons behind the coach’s poor performance was that his football brain was becoming rusty.
Fam general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda said executive committee meeting noted that Kinnah urgently needs to upgrade after four years without any course.
“The executive committee agreed to send the national team coach to a refresher course early next year in Germany to upgrade and sharpen his coaching skills having been a national coach for the past four years without attending any refresher course,” he said.
The meeting also analysed the Flames performance and came up with recommendations which included introducing targets for the coach.
The technical sub committee is also set to undergo transformation to introduce some new members.
“The executive committee also resolved that the technical panel should be rejuvenated and beefed up with new technicians who will bring new ideas as well as critically analyse the performance of the team together with the national coach,” Nyirenda said.
The upshot comes after Malawi failed to qualify for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals to be hosted by South Africa next year.
However, some blame was also placed on players’ lack of commitment during the botched campaign.
