An 18-year-old boy was allegedly stabbed to death in Chandigarh after he asked three miscreants to return a matchbox to a local shopkeeper. The incident took place on Sunday night at a shop in Colony number 4, Phase-1, Industrial Area.

The deceased teen was identified as Sandeep Kumar. Kumar was a resident of Maloya and was visiting his relatives in Colony number 4.

The accused, identified as Vikas and Akash are also residents of Maloya. On the day of the incident, Sandeep was standing at a roadside vendor when three other persons arrived at the spot.

The three men purchased bidis from the vendor and asked for a matchbox. The man handed over the matchbox to the accused but when he asked them to return it, they refused. Sandeep, who was standing at the shop, supported the shopkeeper and asked the three men to return the matchbox, The Indian Express reported.

The accused allegedly flew into a rage and started arguing with Sandeep. When the argument escalated, the accused men stabbed Sandeep around 4-5 times. Sandeep was taken to the GMCH-32 where he breathed his last while treatment was being administered to him.

The police said that one of the accused was arrested soon after the incident by the locals. A cop said, “The identity of the third assailant has been established. He will be arrested shortly. ” The police said that the arrested accused will be presented before the district court on Tuesday.

The deceased’s father Jugnoo said that he was sitting at his relative’s home when he learned about the assault on his son. Jugnoo said that he rushed to the spot and saw his 18-year-old son lying in a pool of blood.
