In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old man allegedly murdered his 45-year-old mother-in-law by slitting her throat after his pregnant wife refused to stop visiting her regularly.
The incident took place at the now-deceased woman’s residence in Taloja Sector 11 in Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai. The accused, identified as Praful Siyali, has been arrested, police said on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Rekha Sharma. Her younger daughter tied the knot with Siyali, an electrical technician, two years ago. After receiving information about the murder, Taloja police carried out preliminary investigations.
They scanned CCTV footage and noticed a person wearing a raincoat arriving at Sharma’s house on Monday morning when her husband had gone to work. Police then inquired with the family members and also, examined the call details.
They grew suspicious of Siyali’s involvement in the crime. Investigations revealed that Siyali was the person who was wearing the raincoat. Subsequently, he was arrested. “Along with technical analysis and CCTV footage, we zeroed down the accused and arrested him on Tuesday.
We are investigating the case further to put together the sequence of events and to recover the murder weapon,” a report by Hindustan Times quoted senior inspector Kashinath Chavan as saying.
Inspector Raju Adagle said that the accused man was irked over his wife’s regular visits to her mother’s house. He asked her to stop visiting her but she refused to do so, following which he decided to eliminate Sharma.
Police have registered an offence against the accused under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation into the case is underway.
In another incident, a am allegedly hacked his wife and mother-in-law to death with a sickle over domestic discord. The incident happened at Haudapurwa village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj district. The man was having an argument with his wife on some domestic issue. He got enraged when his mother-law-interfered.
