District Commissioner for Nkhata Bay Rodney Simwaka has suspended any process in the recruitment of Disease Control Surveillance Assistants following a myriad of concerns raised by traditional and local leaders.
The concerns border on allegations that senior health officials had employed their spouses and relations away from the host district.
In Chiradzulu, Ward Councilors have written Principal Secretaries in the Ministries of Health and Local Government respectively and the Director of Local Government Service Commission to suspend the process arguing that 80 percent of those recruited are not from the district.
Meanwhile, young people in Karonga, Chitipa and Mulanje districts are also set to petition their DC’s.
Public Health Expert and Rights Activist Dorothy Ngoma has asked government to fix the recruitment fiasco.
