The Malawi Congress of Trade Unions (MCTU) is appealing to the private sector to consider revising upward salaries of their employees.
This comes after the government proposed a 13 percent salary increment for public sector workers.
MCTU has also expressed satisfaction over the proposed salary increment for public sector workers.
According to MCTU Secretary General Denis Kalekeni, most Malawians are currently affected by impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic such that a salary revision and an increase in the tax-free threshold are welcome.
Finance Minister Felix Mlusu announced the plan during presentation of his K2.2 trillion 2020/2021 national budget statement last Friday.
