Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has hailed President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for reconstituting parastatal boards, 90 days after their dissolution.
Chakwera released the names of over 60 parastatal on Wednesday night through the Chief Secretary to the President.
The list saw some Tonse Alliance members such as Professor John Chisi of Umodzi Party being incorporated into boards of parastatals.
Reacting to the news CDEDI Acting Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa hailed Chakwera for the move.
“The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) and indeed all Malawians of good will would to commend President Lazarus Chakwera for bowing down to pressure to reconstitute parastatal boards, 90 days after their dissolution.
“CDEDI is challenging the appointees to serve Malawians diligently, and at the same time they should respect the existing laws and regulations governing specific institutions they have been assigned to serve,” reads in part the statement.
He added: “CDEDI’s focus will now be on whether the Tonse Alliance Government will live up to its promise of a new Malawi for all by among other things, ensuring that the recruitment process of the Chief Executive Officers for these parastatals are identified through a transparent and accountable manner. Such a process will enable Malawians with the prerequisite qualifications and capacity are given a chance to serve their country as the parastatals’ CEOs.”
CDEDI has since assured Malawians that it will continue playing a watchdog role in the country.
