A group of civil society organizations has given President Lazarus Chakwera seven days to reconstitute the recently appointed boards of parastatal organizations or risk a law suit.
This is according to a notice of legal action by Wesley Mwafulirwa lawyer representing concerned organizations which include Human Rights Defenders Coalition. (HRDC), Women Lawyer Association (WLA) and NGO Gender Coordination Network.
Just 6 women have been appointed out of 67 board members named in the initial list.
Among other things, the group accuses the appointing authority of flouting the Gender Equality Act in appointing.
This also comes after gender activist Barbara Banda announced she would not pick up the appointment into Teveta board.
Banda said that her decision is in protest as Chakwera has overlooked women in the appointments.
Another activist, Charles Kajoloweka also stated he would not accept his appointment into the national youth council.
