Malawi police at Mwanza station are keeping in custody two men for attempted to conspire to steal fertilizer which belonged to ETG company.

The two suspects identified as Christopher Mtambalika 42 (driver) and Godfrey Banda 39 (businessman) were arrested on the night of September 26, 2020 in the district.

Mwanza police publicist Edwin Kaunda told the Maravi Post that Christopher who works for I.I Mussa carriers on Saturday, was coming from Beira in Mozambique driving a truck reg number Mj 6709 loaded with 600 bags of Urea.

“After clearing at Mwanza border, Christopher connived with Godfrey Banda and diverted the truck to Mwanza Admarc ground where they offloaded 35 bags and wanted to replace with 35 bags of Sand which were in similar sacks of the fertilizer.

“As the two were transacting, police got a tip and made a follow up and arrested the two. Christopher and Godfrey will appear in court on 28/9/2020 to answer charges of Theft by servant and conspiracy to commit a felony,” says Kaunda

The suspects Mtambalika and Banda come from Tanganyika and Masokosa villages, Traditional Authorities (TAs) Njolomole and Nthache in Ntcheu and Mwanza districts respectively.
