Estranged Leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa has promised to resolve differences that are in Democratic progressive Party (DPP)

Nankhumwa said this after he was officially elected leader of opposition by DPP members of parliament yesterday in Lilongwe following the party’s president Peter Mutharika moved to replace Nankhumwa with Francis Kasaila a development which angered most of DPP members.

The party has recently been embroiled in internal squabbles and disagreements which have widened cracks in the former governing DPP.

This has been worsened following the decision by the party’s President Peter Mutharika who is reported to have been appointing names of some senior members to take up the position of leader of opposition.

However, other parliamentarians are against the move made by their colleagues to elect Nankhumwa as leader of opposition.

Writing on his Facebook page while quoting Parliamentary Standing orders, Member of Parliament for Blantyre City South Noel Lipipa said as leaders of the people are encouraged to follow the law, because the law is the law even though it’s harsh but it’s the law.

He therefore defended former president Mutharika’s decision saying it is legit and the authority to temporarily to appoint Kasaila is in order.

“As such, the ‘Party’ is not the 47 MPs who purportedly participated in a Comedy of Errors. The Party is structured and Prof. Peter Mutharika remains the president of our party, therefore, the authority to temporarily appoint Hon, Kasaila is in order,” Lipipa said.
