The Police in Blantyre have expressed concern over an increase in motorcycle accidents.

Most of these accidents are said to be occurring along the Chirimba-Zalewa stretch of the M1 road.

Statistics from the law enforcers indicate that that they recorded 145 road accidents involving motorcycles from January to September 2020.

During the same period last year, 55 motorcycle accidents were registered.

In a statement Blantyre Police spokesperson Augustus Nkhwazi attributed the spike to a lack of adherence of road regulations.

Breaking down the 2020 figures, Nkhwazi explained that 14 are fatal, 3 serious, 122 minor and 6 were of damages only.

In 2019, five were fatal, one serious, 44 minor and five damages were recorded.
