NAIROBI – Nancy Njeri, a police officer based at Wote Police Station in Nairobi has been arrested and is to be arraigned in court for attempted murder.
She is accused of causing serious bodily harm to a lawyer identified as Onesmus Masaku using a panga.
Activists were spotted at Wote Police Station pushing to record statement.
They claimed that the police were trying to cover up the matter to protect their colleague.
Law Society of Kenya President (LSK) Nelson Havi echoed their sentiments and refuted earlier claims that the lawyer had tried to rape Njeri.
“Police in Makueni are complicit in the attempted murder of Lawyer Onesmus Masaku by Policewoman Nancy Nyeri. The two are known lovers and Njeri attempted to kill him after he refused to accede to her demands for marriage. Nancy Njeri should be arrested and charged,” he said on Twitter.
The lawyer was admitted at the Kenyatta Hospital in Nairobi and said to be in critical condition.
A police report seen by Musyi FM had indicated that the lawyer had allegedly invited Nancy Njeri to his house on the premise that he wanted to introduce his girlfriend.
It was alleged that the lawyer tried to rape the officer and that is why she chopped off his hands as she was trying to defend herself.
She also sustained injuries and was taken to Makueni Referral Hospital where she was treated and discharged.
