Barbra Banda Chairperson for Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Gender Coordination Network has called on development partners to stand with women groups in the country.

Banda said this in Lilongwe during the women demonstrations that are underway which are aimed at pushing the Tonse Alliance government to be compliant with the Gender Equality Act.

According to Banda the failure by the current administration to appoint enough women into positions is a missed opportunity.

The activists are against President Chakwera’s recent appointments of parastatal boards as well as his cabinet representation which they argue are imbalanced as required by law.

The demonstrations are underway in the two major cities of the country, Lilongwe te capital city and the commercial city of Blantyre.
