On 8th October 2020, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services through its Central Region Office, arrested three foreign nationals in and around the City of Lilongwe.
The arrest occurred after the foreigners were found residing in the country without the required documentations which is a violation of Section 21 subsection 1 of the Immigration Act of the Laws of Malawi. They will appear before court for trial.
According to the statement from the Department of Immigration the three are Bise Ali Tsilumba a Congolese national and was arrested at Zamkutu trading centre along the bypass road in Liongwe.
Sylivia Abullo from Uganda was arrested in Mchesi Township in the capital Lilongwe and Vincent Bangazi a Rwandese national, was arrested at Salima Boma.
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services is urging all foreign nationals to always remember of their obligation of having valid residential and work permits.
The general public is further urged to bring forward information of all foreign nationals who are working, doing business and residing in Malawi without following immigration formalities.
