A rights and governance activist is describing the conviction of two senior Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) officials as evidence of the government’s tough stance against fraud and corruption.

The two are party’s central region Vice President, Uladi Mussa, and northern region governor, Christopher Mzomera Ngwira.

Mussa awaits sentencing following his conviction for abuse of office in a passport scandal committed during his tenure as Home Affairs Minister some years ago.

On the other hand, Ngwira has started serving a four-year jail term for abusing the Local Development Fund in 2018 while serving as a legislator.

Reacting to the convictions, Executive Director for the Youth and Society Charles Kajoloweka is hopeful that Malawi will be sanitised.
