In an attempt to give police the slip, a suspected criminal jumped to his death from a four-storey building Kolkata, West Bengal on Saturday night.

The now-deceased man, identified as Abdul Hussein from Hooghly district, got into a scuffle with a few people late on Saturday night when all of them were in an inebriated condition. Hearing the noise, neighbours woke up and alerted the local police.

When Chitpur police officials reached the spot, Hussein, in an attempt to flee, jumped off the building. Cops took him to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead.

“Prima facie investigation has revealed that Hussein was a wanted criminal. He may have jumped to flee from the clutch of police. We are investigating the matter,” an official told The Indian Express.

The now-deceased man was accused of committing several crimes, including murder and extortion, IE reported citing sources.

Meanwhile, Special Cell of the Delhi Police has apprehended two sharpshooters of the infamous inter-state gang led by Jitender alias Gogi after a brief encounter in Khera village of the national capital on Friday night.

The arrested accused, identified as Sonu and Neeraj, are residents of Sonipat in neighbouring Haryana. On Friday night, cops intercepted them at Khera and asked them to surrender. Instead of following the directions, they opened fire on the cops.

Police, in retaliation, fired four rounds in which Neeraj sustained a bullet injury on his leg. He was taken to a hospital, a police officer said.
