Debate has ensued on social media following a move taken by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa to abandon the party colours at function held on Monday in Mulanje.
Nankhumwa who is also leader of opposition on Monday donated sports equipment to 13 primary schools in his constituency (Mulanje Central Constituency).
During the donation, Nankhumwa also unveiled primary school learners football and netball trophies.
But to the surprise of many, the orange colour dominated the whole event including the podium used by Nankhumwa was in orange colour.
The development attracted mixed reactions among Malawians especially those on social media with many claiming that Nankhumwa is on the verge of dumping the party.
Recently reports were all over social media that Nankhumwa is planning to join United Transformation Movement (UTM) of Dr. Saulos Chilima.
But Nankhumwa brushed off the claims, saying the rumous are untrue.
Nankhumwa was recently fired from DPP for allegedly declaring himself as leader of opposition ignoring the party’s President wish.
Nankhumwa together with other top officials went to court to obtain an injunction on the matter.
Since then Nankhumwa has been crisscrossing the country congratulating Malawians for voting for Mutharika despite the loss.
