Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of Enlighten Christian Gathering (ECG) Church and his wife are today expected to appear before the Court in South Africa after spending 5 days in police cell.

On Monday the directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) yesterday arrested Bushiri and his wife over fraud case involving money amounting to MK4.6billion.

On Wednesday Bushiri and his wife appeared before Pretoria Magistrates Court for bail application and hearing but the ruling was not delivered for a request by the state to postpone the case.

Bushiri’s Public Relations Officer Ephraim Nyondo confirmed of the development in a statement released on Wednesday.

“The State formally requested to postpone the case while also resisting bail. Our lawyers vehemently opposed the State’s stance to the effect that they demonstrated their readiness by submitting bail applications affidavit.

“The Magistrate will rule on the postponement on Friday and possibly the bail hearing,” said Nyondo.

He added: “We are unhappy about what we feel is a weaponisation of the criminal justice system.”

It is yet to be seen as to whether the Bushiri will be granted bail or not.

Meanwhile ECG Church members are expected to gather outside the court in solidarity with their Prophet.
