State President Lazarus Chakwera has bemoaned the tendency of putting the country on stand still when the president is travelling by road saying it is not acceptable.
Chakwera made the remarks today in Blantyre during the official opening of Golden Peacock.
The first citizen said he wondered why business came to a standstill in most areas when he was traveling from Lilongwe to Blantyre.
Chakwera further asked the Ministry of Homeland Security to make deliberate efforts so that his (president) convoy does not disturb peoples businesses since people are required to standstill for more than 15 minutes.
Chakwera said he understand that it is done for the sake of his security, but was quick to argue that Malawi is not at war it is a peaceful country and should operate as such.
He said his motorcade must transit through within 15 minutes to allow other road users.
