Judge Mike Tembo, the first witness in the judge’s bribery case that is underway at High Court in Blantyre has finished giving his testimony and has presented material evidence to the court.

Judge Tembo fed the court with his interaction with the accused retired business tycoon Thom Mpinganjira who is accused of attempting to bribe judges in the presidential elections case.

Among others, Judge Tembo testified on three counts namely: 1- offering advantage in form of unspecified amount of money to public officers in advantage of presidential election case respondent- MEC and

Arthur Peter Mutharika; attempting to induce public officers into corrupt practices; and attempting to induce a public officer to abuse office.

In the case, which is number 7 of 2020, Mpinganjira is answering five counts.

Meanwhile, Judge Tembo has given the court audio and sound recordings of his interaction with Mpinganjira to the court as evidence.

Tembo was testifying in order to let the court decide on whether the defendant’s plea-bargain was reasonable.

The court is set to start listening to the audio recordings.
