Awards season isn’t over yet and guess who hosting the 2020 American Music Awards?
The vibrant Taraji P. Henson is set to host this year’s AMAs which are scheduled for Sunday, 22nd of November. The ‘Empire’ star will be hosting the prestigious awards for the first time. The awards will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
The American Music Awards tweeted, “The one and only @tarajiphenson is hosting the 2020 #AMAs!!! The unforgettable night starts on November 22nd at 8/7c on ABC.”
Henson said in a statement, “The AMAs brings together the music community to celebrate what really drives all artists – the fans. I’m proud to take the stage as this year’s host – and also a fan – for what promises to be an electrifying night of music.”
She also took to her Instagram page. “I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be hosting the 2020 @AMAs! It’s going to be an electrifying night of music, so be sure to tune-in Sunday, November 22 at 8/7c on ABC! #amastnt WE GON HAVE SOME FUN!!!”
Taraji has previously hosted the 2009 Soul Train Awards with Empire co-star Terrence Howard. In 2014 and 2016 respectively, she hosted BET’s Celebration Of Gospel.
Leading the pack for this year’s nominees are The Weeknd and Roddy Ricch. Both have eight nominations each. It’s the year of Thee Stallion, as the Houston rapper is the most nominated female artist. Megan leads with five nominations. Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, Bad Bunny, and DaBaby each have four nominations. Bad Bunny and Justin Bieber lead the Pop categories with six nominations.
Dua Lipa, and BTS who are also nominated, will be the only two performers at this year’s awards. Fans will vote for the winner in each category.
