Members of parliament in Zomba are demanding the city council to account for funds for a bursary scheme meant to support vulnerable children in schools.
According to Nedi Phoya Member of parliament for Zomba Ntonya Constituency, over 160 children have been forced to drop out of school yet there is a bursary scheme under the council.
Phoya has since demanded the council to probe into events that led to the missing of funds.
Meanwhile, Smart Gwedemula District Commissioner for Zomba, has said the council has initiated an investigation into the matter.
Still with councils, operations at Mwanza district council remain disrupted as communities closed offices of managers at the council following accusations of gross mismanagement of funds.
However, the situation has led to divisions among local authorities with others suggesting use of better problem solving techniques.
Meanwhile, Senior Chief Nthache and Senior Chief Govati have written the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development alleging that Senior Chief Kanduku encouraged the people to close council offices.
ccording to Nthache, concerns raised by the community members are not genuine and did not have merit to close council offices.
Meanwhile, Senior Chief Kanduku has described the accusations as fake and has said that people have a right to protest against bad leadership.
