Two ministries in President Lazarus Chakwera led administration have formed a joint task which is aimed at sensitizing communities on mob justice and escalating of rape cases in the country.
The ministries are Ministry of Civic Education and National Unity which is being headed by Timothy Mtambo and Ministry of Homeland Security which is being led by Richard Chimwendo Banda.
According to a statement on Mtambo’s official Facebook page, it is the Ministry of Homeland Security that is chairing the Taskforce and his ministry is heading the civic education cluster of the Taskforce.
He therefore added that today, November 16 the Taskforce will start the initiative with an interface meeting with Traditional Leaders in Chitipa at the council’s Chamber.
“Later in the afternoon, we will conduct a public awareness meeting at Tondola/Kapoka Roadblock from 2PM,” he said.
The development follows increased rates of mob justice as people are taking laws in their hands and young girls and women are being raped merciless.
There have been series of demonstrations across the country by women who are demanding stiff punishment from government from perpetrators of rape.
However, government has assured women and girls that their protection is a priority.
