Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi Chapter through its chairperson Teresa Ndanga has cautioned local media to make thorough investigations surrounding Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife before making it public consumption.

Ndanga observed that there have a number of misinformation reported in local media regarding the issue hence a call to avoid half publishing half-truths and opinions in the ongoing Bushiris case.

Her reaction, is following what both International and local media outlets reported surround the escape of Bushiri and his wife from South Africa in which t was reported that the country’s President Lazarus Chakwera aided the couple to flee form the Rainbow Nation.

According to Ndanga, the media is rushing in publishing the story without making verifications.

“I do think the media has to get to the bottom of the issue through a thorough investigation other than publishing what has not been verified. We are all looking for some truth in this case, so it’s imperative that journalists publish facts,” she said.

It took the South African government to clear president Chakwera that he did not help Bushiri and wife leave the country adding that they successfully checked and verified all passengers in the plane that President Chakwera used and Bushiris were not part of the team.

Adding to that the government of Malawi also trashed rumors that president Chakwera came to the rescue of the Bushiris who are facing fraud and money laundering charges in South Africa.

Meanwhile, the couple handed themselves over to the Malawi Police earlier today following the arrest warrant that the Malawi authorities received from the International Police (Interpol).

One of the lawyers representing the couple, Khumbo Soko, has confirmed that the couple is in the hands of the police and will appear in court soon after giving out their statements to the police.
