India – In a tragic incident, a 21-year-old woman and her lover, also aged 21, allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves after her family refused to get her married to him.

The deceased – identified as Jyoti and Pankaj – were residents of Piprauli village in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura. They were found hanging from a tree near their houses on Sunday. They were in a relationship since last few years, but the woman’s family did not approve of their alliance as the man was their distant relative, police said.

The woman’s family fixed her marriage with another man and she was scheduled to get married to him on November 26. However, on Sunday, she, along with her lover, took the extreme step, according to a report by The Times of India.

Police reached the spot after being alerted and sent the bodies for autopsy. So far, no case has been fled as the police have not received any complaint, superintendent of police (rural) Shireesh Chandra said, adding that inquiries into the matter are underway.
